<p>A coding test may be an interesting experience for a programmer. Most candidates wind up with the recruiting manager telling them that they’ll be in touch. These applicants think that the HR Department will let them know the how they did, but this is often not the case. So, what do you need to do if you want to get a job offer as a programmer before leaving the interview?</p>
<p>Most importantly, while undertaking a 2 hour coding test during an interview, you should not take more than the stipulated time for completing it. You will be required to solve several small problems, and each problem will be harder than the preceding one. If you are able to solve all the problems in time, it will offer a decent gauge of your abilities to the recruiters. If you can’t even solve the first problem in 2 hours, however, it is likely that you be shown the door.</p>
<p>Let’s check out a few points that will help a programmer to get a job offer from an on-the-spot technical hiring test:</p>
</div>
<div>
<p><strong><br />
1. Offer Multiple Solutions</strong></p>
</div>
<div>Attempt to solve the test questions in various ways. Programmers often try to solve test questions with repetitive and circular processes. Offering multiple solutions to a problem is a skill that is currently in demand because it shows an aptitude for considering problems from different angles. This skill is desired in an engineer, who is required to find multiple solutions to problems encountered each day. Therefore, providing a variety of solutions to a problem could actually help you to get an on-the-spot job offer.<br />
<strong><br />
2. Write Complete Documentation</strong></div>
<div>
<p>Always go for full documentation. If you are diligent, detailed and professional about your work, HR management will take positive note. You should include the full Javadoc and comments for your code before you consider your solution complete. You may also write an entirely automatic unit test and check its coverage percentage. This could initially confuse the recruiters, who may think that you are facing problem with the test while you are typing furiously and adding HTML formatting to your Javadoc. You should keep in mind that the engineer who can undertake this task spontaneously is actually desired in a team.</p>
<p><strong>3. Enhance the Test</strong></p>
<p>At times, the management may create a test with minor problems. These problems, however, are created in such a manner that the candidate can spot them and fix the problem. Types of problems you may encounter include an erratic quotation for strings, deceptive variable names or other similar issues. You should examine all the codes offered in the test and not just those pieces you are asked to write about. If you can really delve into the whole test, you will surpass your competitors. Management looks for someone who can provide the same level of work for the company’s real product after he or she joins the programming team. As an engineer, you must tell your potential employer about any problems discovered in the test you are given. The HR Department may think that you could work wonders for the company’s product by going beyond your assigned area and making improvements wherever required.</p>
<p>If you pass technical muster, you won’t have to wait long for a job offer. Even if you don’t make it, don’t be discouraged. The reality is that there is a great demand for software engineers in the IT industry. Even if you don’t get an instant, on-the-spot job offer from one employer, you will be hired by another. If you implement these three important points, you will be able to succeed at most technical tests and take on your <a style="color: #44c8f5;" href="https://resources.eteki.com/top-5-development-tips-successful-programming-careers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-wpel-link="internal">programming career</a> with confidence.</p>

			<div>It’s easy to list programming languages in Wikipedia, but ranking their popularity is a difficult proposition. Online, there are some good sources of information about the prevalence of the various computer languages. <a style="color: #44c8f5;" href="http://www.tiobe.com/index.php/content/paperinfo/tpci/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer external" data-wpel-link="external">TIOBE</a> is a software research firm where the experts present a collective index on the popularity of programming languages every month. The global ratings provided by TIOBE are based on reporting by individuals in the industry and the popularity of the languages as reported by various search engines.</div>
<div></div>
<div>You may use the TIOBE index to evaluate your programming skills. It will help you to understand whether your skills are updated or not. Moreover, the index can help you to determine what language to use to develop new software.</div>
<div></div>
<div>Let’s check out the top 4 programming languages on TIOBE, as of March 2015:</div>
<div>
<h3>C</h3>
<p>— C holds the first position among the programming languages. It attained the 2nd position in August 2013. This was the most popular programming language of 2008. It is widely used for general purposes and was developed by Dennis Ritchie while working at Bell Telephone labs. C is the basis of C++ and other languages and is designed for functioning with Unix operating system. You should learn it because it is so popular. <a style="color: #44c8f5;" href="http://www.eweek.com/c/a/IT-Management/10-Programming-Languages-You-Should-Learn-Right-Now" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer external" data-wpel-link="external">Wayne Duqaine</a>, the Software Development Director of Grandview Systems, Sebastopol, Calif., notes that learning C is vital for programmers. He explains that once you understand C, it becomes easier to jump to C# or Java because of the common syntax shared by the languages.</p>
</div>
<div>
<h3>Java</h3>
<p>— Java is in the second position among programming languages. This language was developed in 1995 by James Gosling and other associates at Sun Microsystems. It was in the first position in Aug 2013 and was the most popular programming language of 2005. Although it is mainly derived from C and C++, it has a more basic object model. Being an object-oriented language, it is important for developers focusing on the non-.NET experience.</p>
</div>
<div>
<h3>Objective-C</h3>
<p>— Objective C has achieved the third position on the TIOBE index. This language has increased significantly in popularity since it held the 59th position in December 2007. This was the most popular language of 2011 and 2012. This object-oriented language was first developed by Tom Love and Brad Cox at Stepstone in 1980. Objective-C enhanced C programming by adding a Smalltalk-like messaging option. You should learn Objective C, as it is frequently used on Mac OS X and Apple iOS. It’s also the main language for Apple&#8217;s Cocoa API.</p>
</div>
<div>
<h3>C++</h3>
<p>— C++ holds the fourth position in March 2015. It was in 5th position in February 2008 and has maintained its relative level of popularity. This was the most popular language of 2003. C++ was developed by Bjarne Stroustrup in 1979 as an improvement to C. C++ has both low-level and high-level features. You must learn C++, as it’s a wide-ranging multi-paradigm spanning compiled language. The application domains of this popular language include application and systems software, client and server applications, and entertainment software such as video games. It has influenced other popular languages like Java and C#.</p>
</div>
<div></div>
<div>These programming languages are high in demand in the job market. If you understand them thoroughly, it makes your resume more impressive.</div>
